Here is a piece from our Art Curator Pat Woollard...
ABOUT TIME TOO!
Way back in 2011 Anne Blessley, founder of the Friends of Bushey Museum, then in her eighties and becoming a little frail asked me if I would take on the mantle of Art Curator, a little while later Hugh Lewis, then Chairman of Bushey Museum and Art Gallery, approached both John Gerry, who had been assisting Anne, and myself, about the vacant position of Art Curator. I immediately thought it a good idea for us both to share the task and, as it proved, our co-operation was a success, in as much as we brought different ideas and capabilities to the job, helping the progress of the Art Galleries.
Now it is time to move on yet again. John sadly passing away and I am having a few medical diversions myself, so approached Hannah Schonholz, mentioning I needed a successor and she immediately agreed to become Bushey Museum and Art Gallery’s Art Curator! Well done Hannah! Such has been the enthusiasm, the hard work, the dedication of a number of volunteers who work behind the scenes on Wednesdays, when the Museum is open, but closed to the general public, I have nominated them as The Art Team. They comprise, Frances Agnew, Brian Colgan, Laura Garrida-Gonzalez, Lucy Kinna, Hannah Schonholz and Irene Simonaro. Laura can no longer come into the Museum on a Wednesday, but she very efficiently helps with the exhibitions. She and Lucy are curating the new exhibition in the Council Chamber, concerning Myrtle Broome. Well done all!
I am not gone yet – I have been involved in Bushey Museum since the beginning of the Friends and do not intend to give up the habit for a while – and I have nominated myself Art Advisor. Well, we shall see how that works – no doubt when everybody is thoroughly fed up with me interfering, they will let me know.
